Doug Curry
City Administrator

Welcome to Box Elder, South Dakota - Where the Prairie Meets the Black Hills! My name is Doug Curry, and I am honored to serve the City of Box Elder as the City Administrator. Box Elder is a vibrant, rapidly growing community with more than 15,000 residents. Proudly home to Ellsworth Air Force Base, we're known for our strong military presence and growing economy. Ellsworth is the home of America's most lethal bomber force, including the legendary Doolittle Raiders, the B-1 "Bone" Bombers, and the next-generation B-21 "Raider". As the second-largest employer in South Dakota, the base plays a vital role in our region, providing hundreds of jobs and making a significant economic impact. Our city is also experiencing growth in medical services and retail development, making Box Elder an increasingly attractive place to live, work, and invest. As the gateway to the Black Hills, Box Elder offers excellent transportation connections via Interstate 90, SD Highway 79, the Heartland Expressway, RCP&E Railway, and the Rapid City Regional Airport. The airport offers direct flights to major cities like Minneapolis, Chicago, Denver, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Dallas-Fort Worth, Atlanta, and Orlando. Additionally, FedEx, UPS, and Amazon all have regional distribution centers nearby. With the Badlands to the east and the Black Hills to the west, the natural beauty surrounding Box Elder makes it a truly special place to call home. I have lived in the community for the past 20 years and I cannot see myself anyplace else. I've had the privilege of serving as Box Elder's City Administrator since November 2024. My lifelong dedication to public service includes 26 years in the U.S. Air Force, 12 years with the City of Rapid City, and now 5 years with the City of Box Elder. If you have questions, concerns, or would like to learn more about our community, please reach out to our friendly City staff at (605) 923-1404. Thank you for visiting our website! ~Doug Curry
