City of Box Elder Launches New Online Platform!


Starting January 28, 2025, the City of Box Elder launched a new online platform for permits & licensing!


This new system will help you:

✅ Apply for permits & licenses

✅ Pay online (Credit Card & E-Check options)

✅ Track your application progress

✅ Submit documents & request inspections

✅ Receive important updates & reports by email

 

There will be two informational help sessions held at the Community Center in City Hall

  • Tuesday, February 4, 2025, 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
  • Wednesday, February 5, 2025, 9:00 am – 11 am

PRESS RELEASE: City of Box Elder Maintains Strong & Consistent Growth in Sales Tax Revenue


January 22, 2025: Box Elder, SD.


December sales tax numbers were just released by the South Dakota Department of Revenue showing the City of Box Elder having a sales tax growth of 27.90% over the same period in 2023. This follows a 21.12% increase in November, resulting in a 9.51% overall growth for 2024 compared to 2023.

Box Elder's robust economic growth continues to attract new businesses, solidifying its reputation as a stable and thriving market, reflecting strong confidence from national brands in the city's vitality and future potential. New additions further enhance local amenities and economic opportunities for residents and visitors alike.

"Our community's ongoing expansion and economic stability are driving interest from prominent retailers and restaurants looking to invest in Box Elder," said Sean Overeynder, Director of Economic and Community Development. "These businesses recognize opportunities our market offers and the value of being part of our vibrant, growing community."

The growth of Box Elder is expected to continue as the United States Air Force continues its preparations for the B-21 bomber arrival which will bring more military and civilian personnel to Ellsworth Air Force Base.

Town Hall Meeting

Infrastructure Updates


You may have heard about upcoming changes to our water and wastewater systems. After consulting with external experts, the City Council has decided to proceed with vital upgrades to our infrastructure. 

These changes are underway. However, before accessing grants to fund these Capital Improvement Projects, certain procedures must be followed. We're actively seeking and exploring alternative funding options to minimize the impact on you, our valued residents. Rest assured, we've secured funds from specific grants and other sources to help ease the financial burden on our community. 

To stay informed, monitor your utility bills for updates, and continue to visit this site for comprehensive information on surcharges and their application. Prairie Road Reconstruction



Project Summary: 
• Reconstruction of Prairie Road. This includes a new asphalt surface, sidewalk, and storm sewer for improved drainage. This will be the first of two phases. Phase I will extend from Pride Court to Swallow Drive.


Updates:
• Storm sewer installation is completed north of Quinton Lane. The removed asphalt will be replaced with paving of phase 1.
• Curbing is installed from Swallow Drive to a few yards passed Falcon Drive.
• Forms are set for curbing installation to the end of the project.


Schedule for next week:
• Curb and gutter will continue to be installed.
• Backfilling of newly installed curb.
• Asphalt paving goal is 11/15.


Completion Dates:
• Substantial completion date: 11/17. Road paved and usable.
• Final completion date: 11/28. All construction tasks are complete including seeding and cleanup. A final walkthrough inspection will then be conducted by the city, a few corrections or repairs may be identified that the contractor will need to address.
